I bought this for my 9 year old son, and he loves it. The lightsaber is durable, it has gotten a lot of usage in lightsaber “battles” with his friends and has held up very well.
This particular model is not electronic and therefore does not have sound effects. If you want sound effects, there are other models available that have that option, though from experience they don’t seem to be as durable.
For a basic lightsaber, this is a good buy. Be careful how much you pay, they can be found for under [...] if you look around.
This was a real ice breaker at our last housewarming party! We got to know all of our neighbors and see some of their best and worst Star Wars impressions!
Love the toy, my son actually has several light sabers, both electronic and basic like this one. However, you all should know that this basic one can be found at Wal-Mart for $8.97!! At that price, we bought several!
We actually got ours at Wal Mart. I never thought I would research so much for a $[...] toy for my sons. I (not literally) was up a nights trying to figure out which light saber to buy for my kids. My solution was to take my older son (5 1/2) with me to the store to help me decide. It was my younger son’s 3rd Bday and I was going to get him a light sabre (1st on his list)and then get his brother one too (we call it half birthday) so they could play together. My older one chose the most basic light sabre (thankfully) for both of them. It was easier to hold, it was less complicated, and it looked more durable. This is a really simple toy that holds up, and for kids at least this age, there is no need for sounds, lights, bells and whistles. They were thrilled to get them and I like that their basic design means they hold up well. Great toy for the young ones.
I got 3 for Christmas six months ago, a green, a blue, and a purple. They look good and are quite durable. They will raise a welt on the skin if a 4 year old whacks someone with all his strength. Realistic (to the movies) looking handles, but none of our handles are truly comfortable to hold for swordplay. I do think that the value of fun, imaginative play, is high in these toys. Have some fun and try these.
